As someone deeply passionate about health and holistic wellness, I’ve personally experienced the benefits of red light saunas—and I know how powerful they can be. But like many emerging health technologies, there’s a lot of misinformation out there, particularly around the topic of EMFs. A question I get asked all the time is: “What is the EMF rating of the Zua Health Saunas? Are they safe?”
Let’s clear the air: red light and full spectrum infrared saunas are actually safer than many common household appliances when it comes to EMF exposure.
Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) are naturally emitted by all electronic devices. While it’s wise to be mindful of prolonged or high-level EMF exposure, it’s just as important to understand the levels we’re actually talking about. The EMF levels in our Zua Health Saunas typically range from 3 to 25 milliGauss (mG), depending on the type of heating panel—carbon or ceramic—and how close the EMF is measured. For context, everyday devices like vacuum cleaners can emit 100–300 mG, and hair dryers between 60–200 mG. That’s many times higher than what our saunas emit.
Regulatory bodies such as the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) set public exposure limits up to 2,000 mG—well above anything you’ll encounter in one of our saunas. Even when using full spectrum panels, which naturally emit slightly higher EMFs than pure carbon panels, the levels remain safely within this low-exposure range. In fact, ultra-low EMF levels—below 3 mG—are usually only possible with carbon panel systems (not full spectrum).
Despite this, fear-driven marketing has caused confusion. Some people still worry that any EMF exposure in a sauna is dangerous. The truth is, there’s no credible evidence linking low-level EMF exposure from saunas to adverse health outcomes. Multiple peer-reviewed studies have shown no causal relationship between low-level EMFs and serious health risks. On the flip side, the benefits of infrared heat therapy—detoxification, relaxation, improved circulation, and muscle recovery—are well-documented.
What’s unfortunate is that the EMF conversation often gets hyped up without proper context. That’s why we’ve gone to great lengths to design our saunas with user safety as a top priority. We don’t just aim for effective heat therapy; we make sure it’s delivered with peace of mind, so you can focus on feeling better, not worrying unnecessarily.
Of course, some people may be more sensitive to EMFs than others, and for those individuals, having clarity and transparency matters. That’s why we openly share this information and encourage informed decision-making—not fear-based thinking. That said, we always encourage each person to do their own research and purchase what they are comfortable with.
At the end of the day, the main attribute of a sauna is heat, not radiation. And when that heat comes in the form of infrared light, it penetrates deeply and promotes genuine wellness without crossing into risky territory. If you’re using a Zua Health Sauna, you’re choosing a product designed with safety, performance, and integrity.
Stay informed, and as always—stay healthy.
